Stolen House Party Laptop Finds Its Way Home

At any good house party, you run the risk of a few party crashers showing up.  Jaime Couture learned the hard way that they can do more than just mess up your living room and leave behind an empty beer keg – sometimes they steal your laptop.

Fortunately for Jaime, LoJack for Laptops was installed on the stolen computer. Over the next 6 weeks the Theft Recovery Team and local police tracked the laptop’s location and kept Jaime updated. “I was given reports from LoJack every time the status changed. Although, it took about 6 weeks to recover my laptop, I decided to press charges and this added another 9 to 10 months until I was able bring the computer home. I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to use LoJack but after dealing with this situation I’ll never have another laptop without it.”

Not only was Jaime thrilled with LoJack for Laptops, the local detective also credited the Theft Recovery Team with tracking down the thief “With the info you sent I was able to narrow down the possible addresses to a single address. I recovered the laptop yesterday and should be moving forward with a warrant for the thief by early next week. Thanks for all your help.”

Next time you have a house party make sure LoJack for Laptops is on the invite list.

Indictments and criminal complaints are unproven accusations and the accused in all cases are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Okay let’s suppose you have a $1000 laptop. You own your shiny new laptop for two years and it gets stolen when his apartment is robbed. They steal everything, flat screen, desktop pc, stereo, couch and HIS LAPTOP. But wait! He paid $99.00 for the 4 year coverage plan.

Jaime said it took 6 weeks to recover, plus 10 months to bring it home.

Let’s assume Jaime spent about 20 hours of his time to orchestrate the recovery of his laptop.

Let’s also assume that Jaime isn’t rich and only makes about $15.00 per hour.

According to Moore’s law and Jaime’s income this is what we arrive at this conclusion:

After 2 years, Jaime’s laptop would have been worth $500.00, when he got finished with the courts 11 months later his laptop would be worth $250.00 Jaime spent 20 hours of his time to orchestrate the locating of his laptop. ($15.00 x 20h = $300)
Jaime is taking a $399.00 gamble that he gets his $250.00 laptop back in one piece.

If Jaime spent $160.00 on renter’s insurance instead, He would have compensated by the insurance company for the $500.00 value of the laptop, had use of it 11 months sooner and oh by the way, been compensated for all the rest of his stuff that was stolen in the process. $160 x 4 years = $640 but now he has his $500 laptop his $500 couch, his $500 stereo and his $500 iphone covered too… Remember a theif isn’t just after your laptop!

    Duh, no brainer…

      What about the thief?
      What about the next person?
      Thieves should be stopped.
It isn’t all about the money. We have a responsibility to make the world safe for others wherever possible.

You get YOUR laptop back, not a new one.

Plus you know WHO stole your laptop, and this is priceless in the example provided: you no longer have to doubt your friends.

Even though your computer is only worth half after a couple years, it still costs more to go out and purchase another one. And homeowners insurance only protects what’s in the home. What if it’s stolen out of your vehicle? Granted, I couldn’t do without my computer for more than a week, but I own a Mac and they are expensive.

The laptop would only be worth half of what you paid for it if it was a Windows machine. If it was a Mac, it would still be worth a lot. Macs retain their value longer than PC’s. Don’t buy PCs :)
